Sunflowers

Once upon a time in a beautiful forest lived a little mouse, he was a sweet little mouse, and a very funny little mouse...but he was also a curious little mouse...One day he went to visit his grandma who lived on a farm in the countryside, he always wondered what it would be like to be a farm boy! He was excited, he wanted to ride on the big red tractor, and help his grandma with the farm duties. His grandma greeted him with a big hug, they had a delicious apple pie with milk for lunch...after she gave him a pair of overalls, and some garden gloves..."We are going to plant some sunflowers in the garden today Haxley" she said.. She handed him a big bag of sunflowers and showed him how to dig a little hole, drop in a seed, gently cover it up, and pour some water over it..simple!...But...well sunflowers were one of Haxley’s favorite foods to eat and he didn’t want to plant them at all...it seemed silly to him to plant them when he could eat them right now!  He would eat a few seeds when his grandma wasn’t looking, he would plant a few seeds when she was watching...when all his seeds were planted he asked his grandma..."Why do I have to plant the seeds when I could just eat them now?" his grandma replied "Haxley when you plant the seeds, you get to admire the beauty of the sunflowers all summer long, the bumble bees get pollen from the sunflowers, and in the fall you get to enjoy many, many seeds from just one little seed...and honey that the bees make" the little mouse thought about that..woww all from one little seed, that seemed amazing...He went over to the first seed he planted and dug it up..."Haxley! What are you doing...that little seed needs to grow before it can be a sunflower...it needs sunshine, and water, and it will grow.." But the little mouse was puzzled..."What if it doesn’t grow?...if I put it in my pocket I will know I will have it for later to eat" his grandma smiled at him...and said, "Oh yes, that's the most important part in making sure the sunflower grows...it’s just like magic...you have to believe!" The little mouse nodded "Yes grandma...it must be just like magic!" His grandma smiled and said..'Even if you can’t see the little seed grow, you have to believe that it will...and soon, you will see the little green sprout coming up from the ground!" The little mouse realized his grandma was right..."How about a tractor ride back to the farm house...I need some help making a scarecrow" Haxley eagerly hopped on the tractor and drove with his grandma thru the fields...they drove past the beehives where he could see the bees being busy flying from one flower to another...and he was happy that we was able to help them by planting more flowers for them...he liked being a farm boy for the day, and was glad he could help his grandma...he couldn’t wait to come back to the farm and see the giant sunflowers growing big and tall!...all from a little seed that he planted...just like magic indeed!
